The Greek translator you need

I have been working as a language professional since 2008. I hold a Bachelor’s in Translation and a Master’s in Applied Linguistics. My ground values inform my high aspirations, while my ever-evolving interests expand my horizons in all directions.

Introduction

My name is Epameinondas Soufleros (Epa or Nondas, for short). I was born in in the town of Atalanti, Greece. This is where I grew up and received my primary and secondary education. This is also where I live and work nowadays.

Glossotechnema” (“Glosso” for short) is an unofficial name for my business as an independent language professional, which I set up in 2011.

Education

In , I graduated from the Ionian University, Corfu, with a degree in Translation. As part of my undergraduate studies, I spent a semester abroad as a visiting student at the University of Manchester.

In , I was awarded a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Athens.

Work experience

In , I started working as a freelance translator and translation reviser/editor. My commitment to high quality and my motivation to exceed expectations are among the main reasons why more and more clients place their trust on me.

From to I worked as a research assistant at the Research Centre for Language Teaching, Testing and Assessment (RCeL) of the University of Athens.

From to I worked as a Customer Documentation Specialist at Nokia Networks.

From to I worked as a Translation Project Manager at ACM Translations.

At present, I work as a freelancer for companies offering language services and as a vendor for businesses of any size, in any of the industries I am familiar with.

Career goals

My current career goals are the following:

  • Participate in large translation/localisation projects that require human attention and care.
  • Expand into writing services, such as UX writing and Web authoring.
  • Contribute to the creation of better Greek terminology in my fields of expertise.

Values

In my personal and professional life, I strive to abide by a code of ethics; to behave according to a set of values which I appreciate. Here are the most important ones: integrity, honesty, excellence, conscientiousness, diligence, dignity, empathy.

Interests

My main interest for many years has be programming, especially on the Microsoft desktop and Web stacks: C#, .NET, ASP.NET, SQL Server. I am also familiar with HTML, CSS, Markdown, JavaScript and Go, all of which I have used to make the present version of this website, which is based on the Hugo static site framework.

More recently, I have developed a keen interest in nutrition, cooking, gardening and physical exercise. All of these combined promote a healthy lifestyle and are a prime excuse for me to keep off the computer screen and keyboard as much as I can.
